It’s important to understand how repetitive muscle activity can cause problems. In the image on the left you see a high flagpole supported by guy wires. Next to it is a spine and skull. It is supported by muscles in the same way as the cables support the pole. If you over-tighten one of the support cables the tall pole becomes unstable in high winds. In the same way, your spine becomes unstable when certain muscles are overworked, becoming stronger, while others are unused and weak. Welcome to my website! For the past 15 years I've worked with patients to overcome back and sciatic pain. How did I get started? What's my story? It all be began in 1998. I don't exactly remember where I was when I started having pain in my butt and leg. One day I just became aware that it hurt when I stood up for very long! I was dumb and thought it would go away, so I ignored the pain. I was an Account Executive at the time. I spent my day sitting at a desk or conference table. Occasionally I'd stand for long periods of time at meetings, events or trade shows. That's when the pain would get really bad! I would occasionally see my Chiropractor for an adjustment. Sometimes it helped, sometimes it made it worse. I didn't spend any time thinking the ache would get worse. I am an optimist and believed I just slept wrong, or overdid some weekend sporting event. "Give it time and it'll get better," or so I thought. I later learned that sciatica becomes less responsive to treatment and MORE likely to result in severe complications, often resulting in surgery and intense medications if it is ignored for 6-12 months! I made a HUGE mistake, I ignored the pain! Let's pause my story right here. You see, I failed to get help while I was in Stage 1 and ended up going through ALL of the stages! I survived shots in Stage 2 and surgery in Stage 3. They actually removed part of a bulging disk at the lowest lumbar vertebrae - the L4- L5 junction. This is what happens when you bury your head in the sand like I did. Do nothing and the worst possible thing will happen! After the surgery I felt alright for about a month, and then scar tissue started to build up and I found myself right back in Stage 1. I asked the neurosurgeon why this was happening and what my options were. He said: "Well, you lifted a lot of weights, played football and basically had a good run. The body wears out, there's nothing we can do. You'll need to use pain killers the rest of your life." I was shocked! That was his answer! The surgeon, my MD, my DC nobody could explain why it happened to me, so I decided to go back to the University for a Masters degree in Physiology. I believed there HAD to be a reason why it happened, and I was determined to learn how to fix the REAL cause of my problem. I still remember, it was my 2nd semester of advanced Anatomy when I found the answer! I finally understood WHAT was wrong with me! I discovered what caused my problem and began working to create a solution. For the next six months I did careful trials on myself and others with back issues. Finally I found the combination that got the BEST results! I was my first "guinea pig" and it worked better than I could have hoped! My pain was gone in 6 months and it hasn't returned. I'm excited to share my Sciatic Relief System with you! I no longer have any pain and my X-ray's show a spine that is working properly with spinal discs that look full and youthful, like a double stuffed Oreo cookie! After a few years I finished graduate school and received my Master's degree in Exercise & Wellness.
